Who wrote the children's book 'Charlotte's Web'?
Answer
E.B. White
Answer
E.B. White
E. B. White wrote the children's book Charlotte's Web. Published by Harper & Brothers on October 15, 1952, the novel follows Wilbur, a young pig, and Charlotte, a barn spider who tries to save him from slaughter by weaving praising messages into her web.
The book was White's second children's novel, following Stuart Little (1945), and was illustrated by Garth Williams. White drew on his observations of farm animals and his interest in the rhythms of ordinary rural life. The story's emotional center is the friendship between Wilbur and Charlotte, especially Charlotte's sacrifice and the continuation of her legacy through her offspring.
A common mix-up is confusing White with the illustrator, Garth Williams, or with other famous children's authors such as Dr. Seuss and Beatrix Potter. White also wrote The Trumpet of the Swan and co-authored The Elements of Style. Charlotte's Web received a Newbery Honor in 1953 and became one of the best-known works of American children's literature.
