Who wrote 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'?
Answer
Lewis Carroll
Answer
Lewis Carroll
Lewis Carroll wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. First published in 1865 by Macmillan, the children's novel follows Alice after she falls through a rabbit hole into a dreamlike world filled with talking animals, impossible rules, and memorable figures such as the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter.
Lewis Carroll was the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, a mathematician and lecturer at Christ Church, Oxford. The story began during a boating trip on July 4, 1862, when Carroll entertained the three Liddell sisters with an adventure about a girl named Alice. Alice Liddell later recalled asking him to write the tale down, and Carroll developed the handwritten manuscript into the published book.
A common mix-up is naming John Tenniel, who created the original illustrations; he was the illustrator, not the author. The book is also often shortened to Alice in Wonderland, though that is not its original title. Carroll published the sequel Through the Looking-Glass in 1871.
