Who won the women's downhill skiing gold at the 2022 Winter Olympics?

Corinne Suter won the women’s downhill skiing gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Representing Switzerland, she won the race in 1 minute 31.87 seconds on February 15, 2022.

The event took place on the Rock course at the Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre near Beijing. The course measured 2.704 kilometers and dropped 765 meters from start to finish. Suter’s average speed was almost 106 kilometers per hour, demonstrating why downhill is one of alpine skiing’s most demanding events.

Suter entered the race as the reigning world champion. Italy’s Sofia Goggia, the defending Olympic champion, finished second just 0.16 seconds behind her despite competing with a knee injury. Goggia’s teammate Nadia Delago won bronze, giving Italy two places on the podium.

Mikaela Shiffrin, one of the sport’s best-known technical specialists, finished 18th in the downhill. Lindsey Vonn, the 2010 Olympic champion, was not competing because she had retired. Those names can make the question tricky, but Suter was the clear gold-medal winner in Beijing.
