Who won the Tour de France in 2024?

The story behind the answer

Tadej Pogačar won the 2024 Tour de France.

The Slovenian rider dominated the 111th edition of the race, which ran from 29 June to 21 July 2024. He finished first in the general classification, winning his third Tour after earlier victories in 2020 and 2021. His result also returned him to the top step after consecutive runner-up finishes in 2022 and 2023.

Pogačar won six stages, including the final three individual stages of the race. He finished more than six minutes ahead of Jonas Vingegaard, who was second, while Remco Evenepoel placed third. Evenepoel also won the young rider classification, marked by the white jersey.

The 2024 Tour was unusual because it started in Florence, Italy, and ended in Nice rather than Paris. The change was made because Paris was preparing to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. Pogačar’s victory was especially notable because he became the first rider since 1998 to win the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia in the same season, then added the Vuelta challenge later that year.
