Who won the National League Manager of the Year Award in 2014?

Matt Williams won the National League Manager of the Year Award in 2014. He received the honor from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) after leading the Washington Nationals in his first full season as a major-league manager.

Williams guided Washington to a 96–66 record, the best mark in the National League, and the NL East championship. The Nationals finished 17 games ahead of the Atlanta Braves and entered the postseason as one of baseball’s strongest teams. Williams won the BBWAA vote over Clint Hurdle of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Bruce Bochy of the San Francisco Giants.

The award is sometimes confused with the Sporting News Manager of the Year honor, which Williams also won in 2014 through a vote by major-league managers. The American League award that year went to Buck Showalter of the Baltimore Orioles. Despite Washington’s regular-season success, the Nationals lost to the San Francisco Giants in the National League Division Series.
