Who won the inaugural Masters snooker tournament in 1975?
Answer
John Spencer
Answer
John Spencer
John Spencer won the inaugural Masters snooker tournament in 1975.
The first Masters was held at West Centre Hotel in London and featured a small field of invited players. Spencer defeated Ray Reardon 9–8 in the final, securing the first title in what became one of snooker’s most prestigious invitation events.
The Masters is now traditionally played in January at Alexandra Palace in London, although its early editions were staged at different venues. Unlike the World Championship and UK Championship, it is not an open ranking tournament; players are invited based largely on their rankings and status.
Spencer was already a major figure in the sport, having won the World Championship in 1969. His Masters victory gave him the event’s first trophy and placed his name permanently in its history.
