The competition adapted the playground game for television: players attempted increasingly difficult shots, and an opponent received a letter after a miss. Durant entered as the defending champion after winning the inaugural contest in 2009. His 2010 victory therefore made him the only player to win either of the NBA’s official H-O-R-S-E competitions.

A common mix-up is confusing this contest with the Three-Point Contest, which was also part of All-Star Saturday Night. Durant competed in the Three-Point Contest in 2010 but did not win it; Paul Pierce was the champion. The H-O-R-S-E event was discontinued after just two editions, making Durant’s back-to-back wins its complete modern-era championship record.
