Who won the first MotoGP race at the Circuit of the Americas?

The story behind the answer

Marc Márquez won the first MotoGP race at the Circuit of the Americas.

The inaugural Grand Prix of the Americas took place at Austin, Texas, in April 2013, making the newly built Circuit of the Americas the first purpose-built United States venue to host MotoGP in that period. Márquez started from pole position and controlled the race for Honda.

Dani Pedrosa finished second and Jorge Lorenzo third, giving Spain a sweep of the podium. Márquez’s victory was especially memorable because he was only 20 years and 63 days old, making him the youngest rider to win a premier-class Grand Prix at the time.

This result is sometimes confused with the circuit’s first Formula One race, held in 2012 and won by Lewis Hamilton. It can also be confused with the first motorcycle race at the venue, but the quiz asks specifically about MotoGP’s debut there.
