Michelle Yeoh won the Best Actress Oscar for the 2022 film Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Yeoh played Evelyn Wang, a Chinese American laundromat owner drawn into a multiverse-spanning crisis while struggling with family pressures. At the 95th Academy Awards in 2023, her performance earned her the Academy Award for Actress in a Leading Role. The film itself won seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and two supporting acting awards.
Yeoh’s victory was a milestone: she became the first Asian woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress. The award is associated with the 2022 film, but the ceremony occurred in 2023 because the Oscars honor films released during the preceding calendar year. Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas and Michelle Williams were among the other nominees.
