Who won the Best Actor Oscar for portraying Hugh Glass in 'The Revenant'?

“Leonardo DiCaprio won the Best Actor Oscar for portraying Hugh Glass in The Revenant.” He received the award at the 88th Academy Awards for his performance in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s survival drama.

The Revenant, released in 2015, follows Hugh Glass, a fur trapper who is badly injured after a bear attack and left for dead by members of his expedition. DiCaprio’s performance emphasized physical endurance, isolation, and grief, with much of the film relying on sparse dialogue and demanding outdoor scenes.

The Oscar was DiCaprio’s first Academy Award win after several previous acting nominations. Before The Revenant, he had been nominated for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Aviator, Blood Diamond, and The Wolf of Wall Street. His victory therefore became one of the ceremony’s most discussed moments.

The film won three Oscars overall: Best Actor for DiCaprio, Best Director for Iñárritu, and Best Cinematography for Emmanuel Lubezki. The story is inspired by real frontiersman Hugh Glass, although the film dramatizes and alters parts of his life.
