Who was Usain Bolt's long-time coach?
Answer
Glen Mills
Answer
Glen Mills
Glen Mills was Usain Bolt’s long-time coach. The Jamaican sprint coach began working with Bolt in late 2004, shortly after the Athens Olympics, and guided the sprinter through the most successful period of his career.
Bolt was initially known mainly as a 200-metre specialist. Mills encouraged him to develop greater stamina and later supported his move into the 100 metres. Bolt’s first official 100-metre race came in 2007, and the event soon became central to his record-breaking career.
Under Mills, Bolt won three gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and set world records in the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4×100-metre relay. Mills also helped refine Bolt’s stride mechanics, speed development and preparation for combining the 100 and 200 metres at major championships.
Mills coached other elite sprinters, including Yohan Blake, and served as Jamaica’s head athletics coach until 2009. Names such as John Smith and Stephen Francis are associated with other prominent sprinters, but they were not Bolt’s principal long-term coach.
