Malala Yousafzai
Answer
Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai was the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, winning it in 2014 at age 17.
She shared the prize with Indian child-rights activist Kailash Satyarthi. The Nobel Committee recognized their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education. Malala became an international advocate after speaking publicly for girls' education in Pakistan's Swat Valley.
In October 2012, a Taliban gunman shot Malala on a school bus. She survived and continued her activism after receiving medical treatment in the United Kingdom. On her 16th birthday in 2013, she addressed the United Nations, a speech that helped make her a global symbol of education advocacy.
Malala later studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford and graduated in 2020. She is sometimes confused with other young activists, but her Nobel distinction is specific: she was 17 when the 2014 prize was announced.
