Who was the winning manager for the 2018 World Series?

The story behind the answer

Alex Cora was the winning manager for the 2018 World Series, leading the Boston Red Sox over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Boston won the series four games to one, completing a remarkable season with a 108–54 regular-season record. Cora was in his first season as a major-league manager, and the championship made him only the fifth rookie manager to win the World Series.

The victory also had historic significance: Cora, born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, became the first Puerto Rican manager to lead a team to a World Series title. He had previously won a championship as the Houston Astros’ bench coach in 2017, but 2018 was his first title as a manager.

A common mix-up is confusing the winning manager with the World Series Most Valuable Player. That award went to Boston’s Steve Pearce, while David Price earned the decisive Game 5 win.
