Who was the Toronto Tempo's inaugural head coach?

Toronto Tempo's inaugural head coach was Sandy Brondello. The Toronto WNBA expansion team announced her hiring on November 4, 2025, ahead of its first season in 2026.

Brondello brought extensive WNBA experience to Toronto. She previously coached the Phoenix Mercury and New York Liberty, winning WNBA championships with Phoenix in 2014 and New York in 2024. She was also named WNBA Coach of the Year in 2014.

Before becoming a coach, Brondello played professionally in Australia, Germany, and the WNBA. She also represented Australia at four Olympic Games and later coached the Opals. Her husband, Olaf Lange, joined the Tempo's staff as associate head coach.

The other options are prominent WNBA coaches, but none led Toronto first. Noelle Quinn, Cheryl Reeve, and Becky Hammon have coached other WNBA teams or national programs.
