Who was the third co-founder of Snapchat?
Answer
Reggie Brown
Answer
Reggie Brown
Reggie Brown was the third co-founder of Snapchat, alongside Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy.
The three Stanford students worked together in 2011 on an ephemeral photo-messaging concept. Brown brought the idea for disappearing pictures to Spiegel, and Murphy contributed the programming that helped turn the concept into a working product. The prototype launched as Picaboo before being renamed Snapchat.
Brown was pushed out of the company a few months after the launch and later sued Spiegel and Murphy. The dispute made his role easy to overlook, but Snapchat’s own history and the eventual 2014 settlement recognize him as an original co-founder and author of the idea.
The settlement reportedly totaled $157.5 million, and Brown received formal credit as one of Snapchat’s original authors. Mike Buckley and Tim Kendall were important executives at Snap, but neither was a Snapchat co-founder. Brian Lee was also not part of the founding trio.
