Who was the MVP of Super Bowl 11 between Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings?

The story behind the answer

Fred Biletnikoff was the MVP of Super Bowl XI between the Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings.

Played on January 9, 1977, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, the game ended with Oakland defeating Minnesota 32–14. Biletnikoff, the Raiders’ veteran wide receiver, caught four passes for 79 yards. His receptions repeatedly moved Oakland into scoring position and helped set up three Raiders touchdowns.

Biletnikoff’s selection is notable because his statistics were not overwhelming by modern receiving standards: he did not catch a touchdown pass and fell short of 100 receiving yards. The award recognized his impact on key plays rather than simply the biggest raw totals. He became the first wide receiver to win Super Bowl MVP without reaching 100 yards or scoring a touchdown, a distinction that lasted for decades.

The result gave Oakland its first Super Bowl championship after the franchise’s earlier loss to Green Bay in Super Bowl II. Biletnikoff later entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the annual Fred Biletnikoff Award in college football is named for him.
