Who was the MLS Coach of the Year in the 2010 season?

Schellas Hyndman was the MLS Coach of the Year for the 2010 season.

Hyndman earned the honor after guiding FC Dallas to one of the strongest turnarounds in club history. Dallas went unbeaten in 19 consecutive matches, lost only four of its 30 regular-season games, and reached the MLS Cup Final—the first MLS Cup appearance in franchise history.

The award recognized more than the team’s results. Hyndman, who had previously coached Southern Methodist University for 24 seasons, had taken over FC Dallas midway through 2008 and gradually reshaped the squad around disciplined defending, wide attacking play, and the development of younger players. His work helped transform a team that had missed the playoffs in 2008 and 2009 into a championship contender.

A common mix-up is confusing the Coach of the Year award with the 2010 MLS Cup winner. Hyndman’s FC Dallas lost the final 2–1 to the Colorado Rapids in extra time, while David Ferreira of Dallas won the league’s Most Valuable Player award. Hyndman remained the only FC Dallas coach to win the MLS honor until Oscar Pareja did so in 2016.
