Who was the lead vocalist on Iron Maiden's 1982 album The Number of the Beast?

The story behind the answer

Bruce Dickinson was the lead vocalist on Iron Maiden's 1982 album The Number of the Beast.

The album was Dickinson's first studio recording with Iron Maiden after he joined the English band in 1981. It was released on March 22, 1982, and became one of the group's most influential records. Dickinson's wide vocal range appears on songs including “Run to the Hills,” “Children of the Damned,” and the title track.

Before Dickinson joined, Paul Di'Anno had sung on Iron Maiden's first two studio albums. Dickinson's arrival marked a major lineup change and helped define the band's classic early-1980s sound. Producer Martin Birch worked with the group on the album.

Listeners sometimes confuse Dickinson with Ronnie James Dio or Rob Halford because all three are celebrated metal vocalists. Dio was associated with Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and Dio, while Halford was Judas Priest's singer. Neither performed on The Number of the Beast.
