Who was the Greek god personified time?

The story behind the answer

Chronos was the Greek personification of time. He represented time itself rather than serving primarily as a ruler of a particular realm or natural force.

Chronos appears in Orphic and later cosmological traditions as a primordial power, often paired with Ananke, the personification of necessity. Some accounts describe him as generating or surrounding the cosmic order, including the heavens, earth, and sea. His role differs from that of the Olympian gods, because he is more an abstract force given divine form.

A major source of confusion is Cronus, the Titan father of Zeus. The Greek names Chronos and Cronus sound similar, and ancient writers sometimes identified Cronus with time. Renaissance artists helped merge the figures in images of “Father Time,” usually shown as an old man with a scythe. Aion is another neighboring concept: it signifies eternal or cyclical time, while Chronos more directly personifies time as a force or process.
