Who was the first player to complete snooker’s Triple Crown?
Answer
Steve Davis
Answer
Steve Davis
Steve Davis was the first player to complete snooker’s Triple Crown.
A player completes the Triple Crown by winning the World Championship, the UK Championship and the Masters. Davis completed the set when he won the UK Championship in 1983. He had already won the World Championship in 1981 and the Masters in 1982.
Davis dominated professional snooker during the 1980s. He won six World Championship titles, six UK Championship titles and three Masters titles. His first world title was the first of three consecutive Crucible victories, as he also won in 1983 and 1984.
The phrase “Triple Crown” describes the three most prestigious traditional tournaments, but it does not mean that a player must win them in one season. This is a common point of confusion: Davis collected the three titles across different years. Other players later completed the set, including Stephen Hendry, John Higgins, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Mark Williams and Neil Robertson.
