Answer
Charles Lindbergh
Answer
Charles Lindbergh
Charles Lindbergh was the first person to complete a solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean.
Lindbergh made the journey from New York to Paris in May 1927 in the single-engine aircraft Spirit of St. Louis. He departed Roosevelt Field on Long Island on 20 May and landed at Le Bourget Airport near Paris on 21 May, after a flight lasting about 33.5 hours.
The flight won the Orteig Prize, which had been offered for the first nonstop flight between New York and Paris. Lindbergh’s achievement made him an international celebrity and demonstrated the possibilities of long-distance aviation.
Several earlier aviators had crossed the Atlantic, including John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown, who made the first nonstop transatlantic flight in 1919 as a pair. Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic in 1932. Lindbergh’s flight was specifically the first solo nonstop crossing.
