Who was the first chairperson of the United States Semiquincentennial Commission?
Answer
Daniel DiLella
Answer
Daniel DiLella
Daniel DiLella was the first chairperson of the United States Semiquincentennial Commission.
DiLella, a business executive and philanthropist, was appointed chairperson in April 2018. He led the commission during its early organizational period, when members were building the administrative structure and developing recommendations for the 2026 observance.
The commission’s members were sworn in at Independence Hall in Philadelphia on November 16, 2018. Its original membership included private citizens, members of Congress, and federal officials. The body was designed to represent both public institutions and civic participation.
Rosie Rios later became chair in July 2022, succeeding DiLella. That succession can cause confusion in trivia questions about America250: Rios is strongly associated with the commission’s later planning, but DiLella held the initial chairmanship and guided the commission during its formation.
