Who was the Baltimore Ravens' backup quarterback for Joe Flacco in the 2011 NFL season?

The story behind the answer

The Baltimore Ravens' backup quarterback for Joe Flacco in the 2011 NFL season was Tyrod Taylor.

Baltimore selected Taylor in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft with the 180th overall pick. The Virginia Tech standout joined a Ravens team led by Flacco, who started all 16 regular-season games and guided Baltimore to a 12–4 record and the AFC Championship Game.

Taylor appeared in three games as a rookie but did not make a start. The Ravens kept him as their only backup quarterback that season, relying on his mobility and strong arm as a change-of-pace option behind Flacco. He completed his only pass attempt for 18 yards and also contributed as a runner.

A common mix-up is associating Taylor primarily with Baltimore's 2012 championship season, when he was also Flacco's backup during the Ravens' Super Bowl XLVII victory. Taylor later became a starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, but in 2011 his role was clearly Flacco's reserve in Baltimore.
