Who was the American Pop Artist, who lived from 1928-1987?

The story behind the answer

The American Pop Artist who lived from 1928 to 1987 was Andy Warhol.

Born Andrew Warhola Jr. in Pittsburgh on August 6, 1928, Warhol became one of the leading figures of the Pop Art movement. His work transformed ordinary commercial images and celebrities into fine art, reflecting the growing influence of advertising, consumer culture, and mass media in postwar America.

Warhol is especially known for Campbell’s Soup Cans, Marilyn Diptych, colorful portraits of celebrities, and silkscreen paintings that could be repeated in different combinations of color. He also made experimental films, published books, founded Interview magazine, and operated the famous New York studio known as the Factory.

A common mix-up is treating “Pop Artist” as a formal job title; it refers to an artist associated with Pop Art. Roy Lichtenstein was another major American Pop artist, but his lifespan was 1923–1997. Warhol died in New York City on February 22, 1987, at age 58, after complications following gallbladder surgery.
