Who was Roger Federer's longest-serving coach?

The story behind the answer

Severin Lüthi was Roger Federer’s longest-serving coach.

The Swiss coach began working with Federer in 2007 and remained part of his coaching team through Federer’s retirement in 2022. Lüthi’s role was often less prominent than that of headline coaches such as Tony Roche or Paul Annacone, but his sustained presence made him Federer’s longest-running coaching collaborator.

Lüthi was also deeply connected to Swiss tennis beyond Federer. He became captain of Switzerland’s Davis Cup team in 2005 after serving as an assistant, and he guided the team during its historic 2014 title run. His work with Federer therefore overlapped with the country’s most successful Davis Cup period.

The question can cause confusion because Federer used several notable coaches during his career. Tony Roche coached him during a major part of his rise, while Paul Annacone worked with him from 2010 to 2013. Ivan Ljubičić joined Federer’s team later, in 2015, but Lüthi’s overall tenure was longer.
