Who was Rembrandt’s first wife?

Rembrandt’s first wife was Saskia van Uylenburgh.

They married in 1634 in Friesland, after meeting through Rembrandt’s connections with the art dealer Hendrick van Uylenburgh, Saskia’s cousin. Their marriage helped connect Rembrandt with prosperous and influential circles in the Dutch Republic.

The couple had four children, but only their son Titus survived infancy. Saskia appears in several drawings and paintings by Rembrandt, although identifying every supposed portrait of her remains difficult because many images are not securely documented.

Saskia died in 1642, probably from tuberculosis, and was buried in Amsterdam’s Oude Kerk. Rembrandt later had relationships with Hendrickje Stoffels and Geertgen Dircx, but neither became his wife in a formal marriage.
