Who was Pandora’s husband or companion in the Greek myth?

The story behind the answer

Epimetheus was Pandora’s husband or companion in the Greek myth.

Epimetheus was a Titan and the brother of Prometheus. His name is commonly interpreted as “afterthought,” contrasting with Prometheus, whose name is associated with forethought. This contrast reflects their roles: Prometheus warns Epimetheus not to accept a gift from Zeus, but Epimetheus accepts Pandora anyway.

Pandora’s arrival is connected to the punishment Zeus devised after Prometheus helped humanity. In Hesiod’s account, Pandora is sent to Epimetheus, and the pair become linked to the story of the vessel and the spread of human suffering.

The brothers’ names are easy to confuse because both end in “-metheus.” Prometheus is the fire-bringer and planner; Epimetheus is the recipient who acts too late. Pandora is sometimes called the first woman, while Epimetheus is best identified as her companion in the surviving mythic account.
