Who was Pandora’s husband in the traditional Greek myth?

The story behind the answer

Epimetheus was Pandora’s husband in the traditional Greek myth. He was a Titan and the brother of Prometheus, the figure who stole fire for humanity.

Prometheus warned Epimetheus not to accept gifts from Zeus, but Epimetheus accepted Pandora. The story uses this decision to reinforce the meaning of his name, “afterthought,” contrasting him with the foresight associated with Prometheus.

Epimetheus and Pandora are also connected with later flood traditions through their daughter Pyrrha. In those traditions, Pyrrha and Deucalion survive a catastrophic flood and help repopulate the world.

A common mistake is to identify Prometheus as Pandora’s partner because both figures are central to the same cycle of stories. Prometheus is her brother-in-law, not her husband.
