Kantarō Suzuki was Japan's prime minister when Emperor Hirohito's surrender broadcast was recorded in 1945.
Suzuki served as prime minister from April 7 to August 17, 1945. His cabinet handled the final negotiations over how Japan would respond to the Allied demand for surrender.
Hirohito recorded the speech on August 14, during Suzuki's premiership, and NHK broadcast it to the Japanese public at noon on August 15. The message stated that Japan accepted the terms of the Allied declaration.
Suzuki resigned two days after the broadcast. Prince Naruhiko Higashikuni then became prime minister on August 17, so he was not the prime minister during the recording or initial broadcast.
