D’Amico was an Italian fashion designer and model who met Gianni Versace in 1982. Their relationship lasted for about 15 years, ending with Versace’s murder in Miami on 15 July 1997. D’Amico also worked professionally within the Versace world, including as a designer for the Versace Sport line.

The couple were prominent figures on the international fashion and celebrity scene, and D’Amico was with Versace during the designer’s final years. Versace’s will provided D’Amico with a lifelong pension and rights connected to several homes, although the legal ownership of those properties was complicated because they were held through company structures and family interests.
