Who was Georgia O'Keeffe's husband and fellow photographer?
Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Answer
Alfred Stieglitz
Georgia O'Keeffe's husband and fellow photographer was Alfred Stieglitz.
Stieglitz was a pioneering American photographer, gallery owner, and promoter of modern art. He first exhibited O'Keeffe's work in 1916 at his New York gallery, 291, after receiving drawings from the artist and photographer Anita Pollitzer.
O'Keeffe and Stieglitz married in 1924. Their relationship was also a major artistic partnership: Stieglitz made hundreds of photographs of O'Keeffe, while O'Keeffe became one of the central artists he championed.
The couple lived in New York and spent summers at Lake George. O'Keeffe's relationship with Stieglitz is important to her biography, but her reputation rests on her own paintings, drawings, and independent development as a modernist artist.
