Who was fired as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in November 2011?
Answer
Jack Del Rio
Answer
Jack Del Rio
Jack Del Rio was fired as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in November 2011.
Del Rio had led Jacksonville since 2003, becoming the second head coach in franchise history. Owner Wayne Weaver dismissed him on November 29, 2011, after the Jaguars started the season 3–8. The decision came during a major transition for the franchise: Weaver also announced the sale of the team to Shahid Khan that day.
Del Rio’s tenure lasted nearly nine seasons. He guided the Jaguars to playoff appearances in 2005 and 2007, but the team had not returned to the postseason since 2007. His overall regular-season record in Jacksonville was 68–71, and he finished 69–73 including playoff games.
A common mix-up is Mel Tucker, Jacksonville’s defensive coordinator. Tucker was named interim head coach after Del Rio’s dismissal, but he was not the coach who was fired. Del Rio later returned to the NFL as a defensive coordinator and became head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2015.
