Marcus Peters was fined more than $13,000 for his touchdown celebration in a Monday night game.
The incident occurred during the Los Angeles Rams’ 33–13 victory over the Oakland Raiders on September 10, 2018. Peters intercepted Raiders quarterback Derek Carr late in the fourth quarter and returned the pass 50 yards for a game-sealing touchdown.
After reaching the end zone, Peters performed a backward dive while grabbing his crotch. The gesture was a tribute to Marshawn Lynch, the former Raiders star known for a similar “Beast Mode” celebration. The NFL fined Peters $13,369 for the celebration, which was widely reported as more than $13,000.
A common mix-up is Peters’ earlier fine in 2017, when he was penalized $12,154 for dunking the football over the goalpost after a touchdown return while playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. That amount was less than $13,000 and involved a different celebration. The later fine also stood out because Peters’ gesture referenced Lynch, who had previously been fined for a similar act.
