Drazen Petrovic was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002 after playing only four NBA seasons. The Croatian guard arrived in the NBA at age 25, joining the Portland Trail Blazers during the 1989–90 season before finding a much larger role with the New Jersey Nets.

Petrovic became one of the NBA’s earliest international stars. In his final season, 1992–93, he averaged 22.3 points per game and shot 44.9% from three-point range, helping establish the modern image of the European shooting guard. His nickname, the “Mozart of the Parquet,” reflected his precision, creativity, and dazzling scoring ability.

His Hall of Fame case was not based only on NBA longevity. Before crossing the Atlantic, Petrovic won major European honors and earned Olympic silver medals with Yugoslavia and Croatia. He died in a car accident in Germany in June 1993, at age 28, cutting short a rapidly ascending career.
