Rosie Rios was designated chair of the United States Semiquincentennial Commission in July 2022.
Rios previously served as the 43rd treasurer of the United States, a position she held from 2009 to 2016. Her appointment connected the America250 effort with a senior former Treasury official who had experience in public administration and national civic initiatives.
She replaced Dan DiLella as chair. DiLella remained a commissioner after the change, while Joe Daniels had served as the commission’s chief executive officer rather than its chair. Those different roles explain why the names can be mixed up.
The chair leads the commission’s overall work, but the organization includes many other members. Its structure combines private citizens, members of Congress, and federal officials, reflecting the national scope of the 2026 commemoration.
