Who voices Elastigirl?

The story behind the answer

Who voices Elastigirl? Holly Hunter voices Helen Parr, better known as Elastigirl, in The Incredibles and Incredibles 2.

Hunter was cast because director Brad Bird felt her natural speaking voice combined vulnerability with strength—qualities he wanted for a superhero who is both flexible and fiercely protective. Elastigirl is the Parr family’s mother and Mr. Incredible’s wife, and her superpower lets her stretch and reshape her body like rubber.

The role was Hunter’s first animated voice performance. She recorded much of the first film without simply reading through a conventional finished scene: Bird described the action and performed the other characters for her. Animators also studied footage of Hunter’s recording sessions as live-action reference for Helen’s expressions and movement.

A common mix-up is confusing the character’s names. Helen Parr is her civilian name, Elastigirl is her longtime superhero identity, and “Mrs. Incredible” is another identity she uses in the franchise. Sarah Vowell, meanwhile, voices Helen’s daughter Violet, not Helen herself.
