Who voiced the good fairy Flora?
Answer
Verna Felton
Answer
Verna Felton
Verna Felton voiced the good fairy Flora in Disney’s 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty.
Flora is one of the three fairies who protect Princess Aurora after Maleficent curses her. Felton’s performance gives Flora a bossy, energetic personality, especially in her frequent arguments with Merryweather over dress colors, magic, and household decisions.
Felton was a major Disney voice performer. She also voiced the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland, the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, and Aunt Sarah in Lady and the Tramp. In Sleeping Beauty, Barbara Luddy voiced Merryweather, while Barbara Jo Allen voiced Fauna; those three performers are sometimes mixed up because the fairies appear together throughout the film.
The character names also reflect an early production concept in which the fairies were associated with nature: Flora with flowers and plants, Fauna with animals, and Merryweather with the elements or weather. That idea was later softened as the story focused more on their role as Aurora’s guardians.
