Who started the season as head coach for the St. Louis Rams in 2008?

The story behind the answer

Scott Linehan started the 2008 season as head coach of the St. Louis Rams.

Linehan had been hired in 2006 after serving as the Miami Dolphins’ offensive coordinator. The 2008 campaign was his third season leading St. Louis, which entered the year hoping to recover from a difficult 2007 season.

The Rams opened 2008 with an 0–4 record. After a loss to the Buffalo Bills on September 28, the team fired Linehan on September 29. Defensive coordinator Jim Haslett then became interim head coach for the rest of the season, creating a common source of confusion: Haslett coached most of the 2008 schedule, but he did not start the season in that role.

St. Louis finished 2–14 overall, with Linehan credited with the first four games and Haslett with the final twelve. The franchise later hired Steve Spagnuolo as head coach for the 2009 season.
