Who shot Andy Warhol at his New York studio in 1968?

Valerie Solanas shot Andy Warhol at his New York studio in 1968. The shooting took place at The Factory on June 3, when Solanas fired at Warhol and art critic Mario Amaya.

Warhol suffered serious injuries and spent weeks hospitalized. The attack had lasting physical and psychological effects, and security around him became more restrictive afterward. Solanas later surrendered to police and was convicted of assault with intent to commit murder.

Solanas was a writer who had founded the organization SCUM and written the SCUM Manifesto. She had also interacted with Warhol and had asked him to produce a play she wrote, Up Your Ass. Their relationship had become strained before the attack.
