Anton Stach scored the late winning goal in Leeds United’s 1–0 victory over Nottingham Forest on the 2026–27 opening weekend.
Stach struck in the 88th minute with a free-kick to give Leeds all three points at Nottingham Forest. His late effort produced Leeds’ second successive opening-match victory and denied Forest a point in their first game of the campaign.
The goal was notable because it came from outside the area. Stach had scored more goals from outside the box than any other player since the beginning of the previous season, while Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai had matched his total of four direct free-kick goals.
The result continued a difficult home sequence for Forest, who had won only one of their previous 12 Premier League matches at home. Stach’s set piece therefore carried both immediate and wider significance for Leeds.
