Who scored the first MotoGP win for Suzuki after their 2015 return?

The story behind the answer

Maverick Viñales scored Suzuki’s first MotoGP win after the manufacturer returned to the championship in 2015. He achieved the landmark victory for Team Suzuki Ecstar at the 2016 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Viñales won the race on Suzuki’s GSX-RR, taking his first premier-class victory and Suzuki’s first MotoGP victory since Chris Vermeulen won the 2007 French Grand Prix. His 2016 success arrived in Suzuki’s second season back in MotoGP and confirmed that the manufacturer’s rebuilt project was becoming competitive.

The result is sometimes confused with Suzuki’s 2020 championship success, when Joan Mir won the riders’ title. Andrea Iannone and Aleix Espargaró were also Suzuki riders during the post-return period, but neither delivered this first race victory. Viñales later moved to Yamaha for 2017, making the Silverstone win especially important in his career.
