Who sang the original English Pokémon Theme?

The story behind the answer

Jason Paige sang the original English Pokémon Theme.

The song served as the opening theme for the first season of the English adaptation of the Pokémon anime. Its lyrics follow an aspiring Trainer who wants to become the very best and includes the famous slogan “Gotta catch ’em all!”

John Siegler and John Loeffler wrote the song, while Siegler also produced it. Paige provided the lead vocals, and David Rolfe played guitar; Rolfe later became the vocalist for several other Pokémon television themes.

The song is often confused with the original Japanese opening, “Aim to Be a Pokémon Master,” performed by Rica Matsumoto. Those are different recordings for different language versions of the anime. The English Pokémon Theme later appeared in expanded form on the 1999 album Pokémon 2.B.A. Master and became closely associated with the franchise’s late-1990s international breakthrough.
