Answer
Lord Louis Mountbatten
Answer
Lord Louis Mountbatten
Lord Louis Mountbatten received Japan's regional surrender at Singapore's Municipal Building on 12 September 1945.
Mountbatten was Supreme Allied Commander of South East Asia Command. At Singapore, he received the surrender of Japanese forces in the region from General Seishiro Itagaki, who acted for Field Marshal Hisaichi Terauchi.
The event followed the broader surrender ceremony aboard USS Missouri on 2 September. The Tokyo Bay ceremony ended Japan's war at the national level, while later regional ceremonies transferred Japanese forces and territories to designated Allied commanders.
Singapore's ceremony was followed by a victory parade at the Padang. British military administration then governed the island until March 1946. The ceremony is sometimes confused with the Missouri signing, but the two events occurred ten days apart and involved different command structures.
