Who provides the voice for Moana?
Answer
Auli'i Cravalho
Answer
Auli'i Cravalho
Auliʻi Cravalho provides the voice of Moana. The Hawaiian actress and singer was cast as the character during an extensive search for a performer from the Pacific region, making her feature-film debut in the role.
Cravalho was 14 and a high-school freshman when Disney selected her. The filmmakers had already developed Moana’s general appearance and personality, so her resemblance to the character was considered a coincidence. Animators later incorporated some of Cravalho’s mannerisms into Moana’s onscreen behavior.
Her performance helped define Moana as a determined, empathetic wayfinder rather than a conventional princess waiting to be rescued. Cravalho also reprised the role in the Hawaiian-language version of the film. She is sometimes confused with other prominent Disney voice actors, but neither Hailee Steinfeld nor Zendaya voices Moana. Dwayne Johnson, meanwhile, provides the voice of Maui, the shapeshifting demigod who joins her journey.
