Who provided Ash Ketchum’s English voice during the first eight seasons of the Pokémon anime?

The story behind the answer

Veronica Taylor provided Ash Ketchum’s English voice during the first eight seasons of the Pokémon anime.

Taylor performed Ash in the English dub produced by 4Kids Entertainment. She also voiced Ash's mother, Delia, and several other characters. Her version of Ash became closely associated with the early English-language run of the series, including the original Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and early Battle Frontier material.

Sarah Natochenny replaced Taylor beginning with the ninth season in 2006. The change occurred when Pokémon USA moved the English dubbing work away from 4Kids Entertainment and into a new production arrangement. This is why both actresses are strongly associated with Ash, but with different periods of the series.

In Japanese, Ash is known as Satoshi and was voiced by Rica Matsumoto. Veronica Taylor's role refers specifically to the English dub, not the original Japanese performance or every international-language version.
