Who produced Paul McCartney's album 'Chaos and Creation in the Backyard'?

The story behind the answer

Nigel Godrich produced Paul McCartney’s album “Chaos and Creation in the Backyard.”

McCartney brought Godrich into the project after George Martin recommended him. The pairing connected one of pop’s most established songwriters with a producer best known for his detailed work with Radiohead, Beck, Travis, and other alternative artists.

Recording began in 2003 and resumed after McCartney’s work on another album. Godrich pushed McCartney toward a more stripped-back approach, eventually asking him to work largely without his touring band. McCartney played most of the instruments himself, giving the record an unusually intimate, self-contained sound.

A common mix-up is confusing Godrich with George Martin, who recommended him but did not produce the album. David Kahne produced McCartney’s next studio album, “Memory Almost Full.” “Chaos and Creation in the Backyard” was released in 2005 and earned several Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year.
