Who plays the character Carlos in the 2006 film Quinceañera?

The story behind the answer

Jesse Garcia plays Carlos in the 2006 film Quinceañera.

Carlos is Magdalena’s cousin and one of the central figures in the film. After Magdalena’s pregnancy causes a family rupture, she moves into the home shared by Carlos and their great-granduncle Tomas. Carlos’s relationship with his partner and his place within the extended family become major parts of the story.

Jesse Garcia’s performance helped define Carlos as more than a supporting relative. The character is involved in the film’s themes of family loyalty, social prejudice, sexuality, and the possibility of creating a supportive household outside conventional expectations.

Quinceañera was directed and written by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland and won both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at Sundance in 2006. Garcia should not be confused with Mexican actors Michael Peña, Gael García Bernal, or Diego Luna, none of whom played Carlos in this film.
