Who played Pennywise in the 1990 television miniseries based on Stephen King's It?

The story behind the answer

Tim Curry played Pennywise in the 1990 television miniseries based on Stephen King's It.

The two-part miniseries aired on ABC in November 1990, with Curry portraying the shape-shifting entity commonly known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. His performance became one of the production's defining features and helped make the character recognizable to television audiences.

The miniseries also starred Richard Thomas as the adult Bill Denbrough and a young cast that included Seth Green, Jonathan Brandis, and Annette O'Toole. It alternates between the Losers' Club as children and their return to Derry as adults.

Bill Skarsgård later played Pennywise in the 2017 film It and its 2019 sequel It Chapter Two. Curry therefore belongs specifically to the 1990 television adaptation, not the later two-film version.
