Who played oncologist Dr. James Wilson in House M.D.?
Answer
Robert Sean Leonard
Answer
Robert Sean Leonard
Robert Sean Leonard played oncologist Dr. James Wilson in House M.D.
Wilson is Dr. House’s closest friend and one of the few people willing to challenge him personally. As head of oncology at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, Wilson treats cancer patients while also acting as House’s emotional counterbalance and occasional moral critic.
Leonard appeared throughout the series and was one of its principal cast members. The character’s friendship with House is central to the show, even though their relationship is repeatedly strained by deception, professional disagreements, and House’s self-destructive behavior.
Leonard was already well known before House M.D. for playing Neil Perry in the 1989 film Dead Poets Society. He also performed extensively on stage and won a Tony Award for his role in the Broadway production of The Invention of Love. Wilson’s specialty is oncology, not neurology or surgery, although the character frequently participates in House’s broader medical discussions.
