Who played Norm Peterson?
Answer
George Wendt
Answer
George Wendt
George Wendt played Norm Peterson on Cheers, the famously regular customer whose arrival was routinely greeted with the chorus “NORM!” from the bar staff and patrons.
Norm was a typically sitcom-sized character with an unusually memorable routine. He often entered Cheers, exchanged a quick greeting with the bartender, ordered a beer, and delivered a sardonic comment about work, marriage, or daily frustrations. The character was an accountant for much of the series, though later storylines gave him jobs such as house painter, interior decorator, and brewery beer taster.
Wendt originally auditioned for a minor pilot role reportedly intended to be named George. The part had only a brief line, but the producers expanded his involvement, renamed the character Norm, and made him one of the show's central bar regulars. Norm is sometimes confused with Cliff Clavin, played by John Ratzenberger; Cliff was the know-it-all postal worker, not Norm.
